Is there such a thing as affordable health insurance for the average American? Many Americans have health insurance from their employers. However, that is not always the case. The economy is changing. It is now more service-based. The service industry does not always offer health insurance to employees. Many people work part time or have temporary contracts, and health insurance simply isn’t provided. Furthermore, companies that do offer health insurance often expect the employee to contribute a significant sum towards it. Consequently some Americans are now without health insurance.
For some Americans, there is no such thing as affordable health insurance. In fact health insurance premiums are increasing. If there were affordable health insurance, why did the number of uninsured rise 2.2 million between 2005 and 2006? Why has the number of uninsured increased by almost 9 million people since the year 2000? If there is affordable health insurance, why do almost forty percent of uninsured individuals live in households with a combined income of $50,000 or more? If there is affordable health insurance, why is it such a hot topic in the run up to the 2008 presidential election? Yes there is affordable health insurance in the United States, if you happen to be wealthy or at least financially comfortable.
