I am going to try to bring the advantages to Universal Health Coverage. These advantages are what people are seeing as the Fix-All for our Health and Insurance dilemmas.
Universal Health Coverage must provide all residents of the United States health care from birth until death regardless of health status, age, employment or income with some but, very few exceptions. Pre-existing conditions will be covered with no limitations or exclusions. If a person loses their job or changes their job, there will be no loss of coverage.
The Comprehensive Benefits includes prescription drugs, long-term care services, inpatient and out-patient care, mental health care, rehabilitative care and, most important, Preventive care. .
Any willing, licensed, professional person who is enrolled the System will be available for services.
If this System works the way that it should, money will be saved by not having all the administrative costs. The purchasing power for getting bulk pharmaceuticals and medical supplies and equipment will be greatly reduced. Also, if there is a significant emphasis placed on preventative and primary care, lots of money can be saved. No new spending should happen because there will just be s shift of funds of insurance premiums which would be from the private sector which is what is now to the public sector which would be the System. All hospitals, clinics and providers would be paid for the services they deliver so there would not be bills not being paid.
A leveling playing field will be established by putting a Health Payroll Tax on all businesses as an operating expense to help stabilize Health System inflation.
There would have to be no Workers Comp and employers would not have to pay employees insurance if that be what they are doing. Not working just to get insurance and maybe people moving to other jobs just to get better insurance would help stabilize the workforce where people would stay long-term at their jobs.
Some due diligence on the subject is well warranted.
Check on other countries that have Universal Health Coverage. My results have not been too favorable but, yours to decide upon.
