A letter arrived with my bank statement a few years ago indicating my husband and I were eligible for FREE life insurance thru our bank.  The policy was for $1,000 for my husband and $500 for me.  We could, of course, purchase additional accident health insurance at a very reasonable rate.  Being the savvy consumer I am, I purchased added coverage.

This year, my husband required emergency bypass surgery.  Afterward, we began to think about what might have happened and realized that the policy we purchased was an Accidental Death and Dismemberment policy.  Had the worst happened, this policy would not have paid out.  It's accident health insurance - for accidents!!!!

A word to the wise - know what you are buying.  It's easy to jump on board when you find affordable health insurance or accident health insurance.  Affordable health insurance often comes with restrictions and accident health insurance ONLY pays in the event of an accident.  Make sure you know what you are getting for your money.
